Athens-Clarke County Stormwater Department Media Room and Mapping System Launched Today
The Athens-Clarke County Stormwater Department needed a mapping system to track incidents of dumping and flooding, as well as stream quality data. They also needed an interactive way for people to learn about watersheds, runoff, water pollution. We built a system that allows citizens to report dumping and flooding directly on the map. We also built a media room, including audio and video podcasting, an events calendar, a news blog, photo galleries, and a very cool Turtle Girl (designed by Leslie Dallion). The system uses a combination of Flash for the mapping functions and graphical interface, but the user input is done through AJAX popovers so that all forms, calendars, and blog entries are accessible. There is text navigation, so that someone with a disability can do nearly everything the site is designed to do without using the Flash interface, but we didn't have to develop two separate systems.
