Athens Exchange is an online magazine serving the Athens, GA area. Regular publication of articles on sports, music, and politics has expanded to include food, fashion, UGA campus news, and a major film section. Using local writers, Athens Exchange is written and maintained in large part by students learning to produce content in a new media environment.

Athens Popfest

Now in its fifth year, the Athens PopFest has proven to be both a facilitator of and catalyst for a renewed international community spirit among discerning rock and pop fans. Boxkite Media, through its outlets Athens Exchange and Overheard in Athens, has been a sponsor of the festival for four years. This year we built them a shiny new website, including a version of the Spool designed to manage information for the festival including calendars, band profiles, mailing lists, ticket sales, and discussion forums.

Athens-Clarke County Stormwater Department

The Athens-Clarke County Stormwater Department needed a mapping system to track incidents of dumping and flooding, as well as stream quality data. They also needed an interactive way for people to learn about watersheds, runoff, water pollution. We built a system that allows citizens to report dumping and flooding directly on the map. We also built a media room, including audio and video podcasting, an events calendar, a news blog, photo galleries, and a very cool Turtle Girl (designed by Leslie Dallion).

BandWidth Athens

BandWidth is web hosting designed for artists in the Athens, Georgia area. Artists, musicians, writers, and the organizations that support them have special web hosting needs. Music, video, images and writing require data storage and transfer that costs money. BandWidth Athens helps local artists share that cost.

Camshotra

Our dear friend Rich Merritt needed a heavy-duty photo gallery to show off his work, and Camshotra is the result. All the photos are databased using a specialized content management system, and Rich has complete control over the category system through the Spool. The front end of the site was coded in AJAX (a javascript/XML hybrid language) to allow us to achieve Flash-like graphical effects without using Flash.

Chronicle Network

The Chronicle Network is actually a network of news sites serving a large part of the country. They receive more than 30,000 visitors a day. We designed the entire content and user management system from the ground up. The content management system allows the editor to manage articles submitted by over 1,000 authors. Currently, the site contains nearly 20,000 articles spread over an enormous number of categories. All submission, editing, and publication takes place in the back office of the site. It is managed by a single person, part-time.

Dawg Swap

Dawg Swap is a platform for students to sell used textbooks to other students. Since it is tied in with the University of Georgia's MyID system, UGA students don't need to create accounts, and they don't have to pay all the fees associated with selling on E-bay or Amazon.

The Fanning Institute is a unit of Public Service and Outreach at the University of Georgia. We redeveloped their web presence from the ground up, including faculty profile management, class and event registration, project management, and conference planning.

The Film Phile is a group blog about film and television. From Oscar coverage to movie reviews to industry commentary, they always have something interesting to say. Built using Boxkite Media's Publication Management Spool.

You never know who might be listening. Combining social content, geographical communities, and user input features like voting, submission, and ranking, Overheard in Athens has become a local favorite for students at the University of Georgia.

Overseen In Athens

Overseen in Athens is a site that blends community contribution with humor, reader commentary, and geographical location. Users submit photos, suggest captions, and comment on photos. Boxkite Media wrote the software that manages submission, commenting, and tagging, as well as user accounts.

Riverway South

RiverWay South is designed to work with communities within the Apalachicola, Chattahoochee, and Flint watershed to preserve the environment while increasing the economic vitality of the region. The website features photo galleries, testimonials, and self-guided brochure, video, and audio tours from a variety of sources.
The main feature of the site is an interactive map of the river. Important locations along the river, including everything from historic buildings to parks to boat ramps, are identified. New locations are submitted by used and are added to the map when approved by RiverWay South.

UGA At Oxford

The UGA at Oxford Program has been in existence for nearly twenty years. One of the most successful programs on campus, the program is a big reason that the University of Georgia has risen to rank in the top five in the nation for University student participation in study abroad programs. They offer over 90 different courses in a wide variety of majors and subjects. The design of the site is by Haywood Thomas and we did the javascript work, created the pagewrapper, and implemented the database.
