Take A Gander At Overseen In Athens

For years, Athenians had to watch what they said in public to avoid ending up on Overheard in Athens. Now, you have to worry about how you look. Overseen in Athens allows user to submit photos from around Athens. We're betting that they won't be architectural shots.

Athens PopFest 2008 Site Goes Live

After much planning, scheming, and coding, the Athens PopFest 2008 website is live to the world. Now in its fifth year, the Athens PopFest has proven to be both a facilitator of and catalyst for a renewed international community spirit among discerning rock and pop fans. Boxkite Media, through its outlets Athens Exchange and Overheard in Athens, has been a sponsor of the festival for four years. This year we built them a shiny new website, including a version of the Spool designed to manage information for the festival including calendars, band profiles, mailing lists, ticket sales, and discussion forums. This doesn't make us rock stars, but it sure does feel like it. After all, we're with the band.

Revision Of Partner For People And Place Launched

A non-profit we work for called Partner for People and Place needed an overhaul of their site to reflect their most recent project, Jatropha Pepinyè. Jatropha Pepinyè is a nursery that grows Seedlings of a hearty plant that is quite suited to the production of biodiesel. The nursery supplies job, seedlings that marginal farmers can cultivate until they begin to bear the seeds that are used to make biofuel. We've added video about the process, text and images to explain the process, and a more sophisticated donation system.

The article is quite positive, and focuses on how the Spool makes it easy for writers to contribute to AE. We're excited to get some press for the content manager.

Boxkite Media Signs Contract With Athens-Clarke County Stormwater Department

The Athens-Clarke County Stormwater Department has asked us to build an interactive map of stormwater catchments in Athens. Citizens will be able to find out where their water goes, and the Stormwater Department will be able to track research they're doing about water quality.

The map will be a mashup of Google Maps, Flash, map layers from the planning department, research data, and community tools like flood reporting and event registration. What fun!

Most Amusing Search Engine E-mail In A While

Yes, e-mails about search engines can be funny. Today, I received this doozy from Google Adsense (the folks who place Google ads on publisher pages):

"As more publishers are being asked to complete the phone verification process, we've received a number of puzzled emails from our international community asking about the prompt to 'press the pound key'. To clarify, the 'pound key' refers to the '#' symbol (also known as the hash key), and not the '₤' symbol. The pound/hash key can typically be found below the '9' key.

We're working on perfecting our non-US English, and we apologise for any confusion caused ;)

Posted by Arlene Lee - AdSense Publisher Support"

Next thing you know, Google will be talking about going the extra mile and about how the search engine business is a game of inches.
