Mad About Town is a podcast about Athens, Georgia musicians. Each episode features a different musician interview, and each musician plays records by their major influences. Boxkite Media designed a podcasting and blogging platform, along with the permission system that supports multiple site editors.

The Athens-Clarke County Stormwater Department needed a mapping system to track incidents of dumping and flooding, as well as stream quality data. They also needed an interactive way for people to learn about watersheds, runoff, water pollution. We built a system that allows citizens to report dumping and flooding directly on the map. We also built a media room, including audio and video podcasting, an events calendar, a news blog, photo galleries, and a very cool Turtle Girl (designed by Leslie Dallion).

For years, Athenians had to watch what they said in public to avoid ending up on Overheard in Athens. Now, you have to worry about how you look. Overseen in Athens allows user to submit photos from around Athens. We're betting that they won't be architectural shots.

After much planning, scheming, and coding, the Athens PopFest 2008 website is live to the world. Now in its fifth year, the Athens PopFest has proven to be both a facilitator of and catalyst for a renewed international community spirit among discerning rock and pop fans. Boxkite Media, through its outlets Athens Exchange and Overheard in Athens, has been a sponsor of the festival for four years. This year we built them a shiny new website, including a version of the Spool designed to manage information for the festival including calendars, band profiles, mailing lists, ticket sales, and discussion forums. This doesn't make us rock stars, but it sure does feel like it. After all, we're with the band.

In today's Red & Black there's an article about Athens Exchange written by an AE contributor named Freeman Montaque. The article is quite positive, and focuses on how the Spool makes it easy for writers to contribute to AE. We're excited to get some press for the content manager.

The Athens-Clarke County Stormwater Department has asked us to build an interactive map of stormwater catchments in Athens. Citizens will be able to find out where their water goes, and the Stormwater Department will be able to track research they're doing about water quality.

Tonight we launched the new look for Overheard in Athens, one of our Boxkite Media Outlets. We think its more readable and easier to navigate. Hope you do, too. Our plan is to add user accounts so readers can start submitting headlines in addition to quotes. We're also thinking about a store so folks can get their very own Overheard in Athens swag.

We've just finished and launched a complete redesign of Athens Exchange. We think the new look is a lot more readable and organized than the previous iteration. We also added a lot of new features, including blogs (food, tech, music, and mp3), a food section. A UGA section is coming soon.

For the third year in a row, Athens Exchange will be the online media sponsor for Athens Popfest. Joining AE as a sponsor for the first time is another Boxkite Media Outlet, Overheard in Athens. Check the Popfest site for updates about bands, to buy tickets, and to make your travel arrangements.

The American Society for Microbiology Division O, the section devoted to fermentation and biotechnology, has a new site. Very heady stuff.

Local spoken word act Athens Boys Choir wanted a new look to coincide with a new album. We took some of the album art, added in a sophisticated news blog and calendar controlled by Katz through Boxkite's content management system, the Spool. Now Katz is free to update the site at will instead of depending on a programmer to make all the changes.

Boy, did it need a new look. With more space for graphics, more whitespace and better organization, the new Athens Exchange is finally something we enjoy looking at.
